Please note all Spring term sessions will now be held online. 

 

The following courses are aimed at all staff  who need to complete safeguarding training,  or are looking to develop their knowledge about safeguarding and behaviour management skills

Safeguarding/Cultural Compliance  

This session looks at safeguarding culture and systems in response to localised contexts and national requirements. It will also look to provide leaders with practical summary tasks and opportunities to reflect on their own work. This course is suitable for DSLs and SLT.

Facilitator: David Turner

David Turner is the director of school development at SIA, School Improvement

David Turner

Associates. David helps schools along their improvement journey and has worked in education since 1992. David's experience includes classroom teaching, subject/middle leadership (twice), senior leadership (twice) and local authority advisory services. He qualified as an Ofsted inspector in 2005 and has regularly inspected schools since 2010, including lead inspector role since 2013. When working as an adviser, David does not represent Ofsted. His specialist classroom area is questioning and he is published on that subject. As well as education, David has enjoyed a career as a musician in a pop group. 

Safeguarding for New Staff  

This course is essential for any staff who need to complete their safeguarding training. The session will enable you to recognise the signs of child abuse and what appropriate actions to take. Contextualised safeguarding and wider issues along with key statutory documents will also be discussed in the session. A certificate will be presented to all delegates who attend either date.

Sarah Fleming

Dates: 14th January & 15th April 2021

Facilitator: Sarah Fleming

This session will be delivered by Sarah Fleming who is the BWT Primary Safeguarding Advisor and the Safeguarding and Child Protection Manager at Beanfield Primary School.  Sarah has received advanced training in safeguarding, and has many years of experience working with children and families who have faced adversity in relation to Child Abuse, Domestic Violence and a variety of welfare needs.  

Well-being Interventions (S) 

The focus of this session will be on protective behaviours, bereavement, feelings and emotions and managing anger. Practical strategies will be given throughout the session.

Sarah Fleming

Dates: 25th February 2021

Facilitator: Sarah Fleming

The session will be delivered by members of the Wellbeing Team from Beanfield Primary School.  The team have a wealth of knowledge to share and the focus will be on Protective Behaviours, Bereavement, Feelings and Emotions and managing Anger. 

Introduction to Team Teach (for BWT colleagues only) (S) 

This 6-hour, one day course equips individuals with simple  de-escalation strategies and basic positive handling techniques to deal with challenging behaviour and encourage positive relationships in their working environment.

Charlie Smith

I have worked with Brooke Weston Trust for over 7 years, in a variety of different roles but all with regards to SEND and vulnerable pupils. I am currently based at Beanfield Special Provision whilst working closely with all Primary SENCOs for BWT in an outreach role. I have a passion in supporting and providing the very best opportunities for all.

Effective Behaviour Management (S) 

This session will give attendees the power to build confidence in their behaviour management and build on previous skills and knowledge. There will be a focus on practical advice for class teachers and support staff.

Statutory EVC Training 

This one-day practical course is aimed at colleagues who lead visits off site. You will need stout footwear and warm/waterproof clothing.  A certificate will be presented to all d

Mike Fawcett

Mike Fawcett is the Director of Longtown Outdoor Learning Trust, which runs a residential 70 bed Outdoor Adventure centre in Herefordshire (formerly owned by Northamptonshire County Council).  He is a qualified teacher whose most recent school-based post was as Deputy Head Teacher of Cross Ash Primary School in Monmouthshire. He is also qualified to lead, instruct and coach a range of Outdoor activities. Mike has substantial experience of residential education and is a member of the Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres. Mike is a member of the National Panel of Outdoor Education Advisers and advises Northamptonshire County Council and approximately 70 schools about safety issues surrounding Outdoor Learning.

 

Course costs: A full day course is only £65 per delegate, which includes a light lunch and half a day course is £30.
