National Leaders of Governance
Brooke Weston Teaching School Alliance's NLG:
Phil Harris-Bridge
Governor
Brooke Weston Trust
With 25 years of school governor experience, across both primary and secondary sectors, I was appointed as an NLG in 2015. NLG assignments undertaken to-date have generally been in taking the role of interim chair of the governing Board of schools/academies experiencing governance, leadership, strategic or operational challenges impacting the schools ability to optimise teaching and learning for its students. This can be as a result of an OfSted inspection judgement; where the LA has recognised/identified weakness areas; a MAT needs additional, experienced input to strengthen governance; or the school/academy itself recognises the need for additional support to get back on track. Interim chair roles tend to last between 6 and 12 months based on clear deliverables, but shorter assignments can also be supported, for example advising/mentoring/coaching existing or new chairs.
