Congratulations to Ms Linda Arnold Vice Principal at Corby Technical School who has qualified as a Specialist Leader in Education (SLE) for Developing maths teaching and curriculum development.
Congratulations to Ms Linda Arnold Vice Principal at Corby Technical School who has qualified as a Specialist Leader in Education (SLE) for Developing maths teaching and curriculum development.
Linda has worked in education for a number of years and has held many exciting and varied roles including head of maths at Lodge Park before taking the exciting step of joining Corby Technical School at the start of its very first year and has been there ever since, first as a Director of Mathematics and now in her current role of Vice Principal.
As an SLE, Linda will be working with teams and individual teachers to improve the outcomes for students. She said, ‘I have been involved in developing individual staff members and teams for a considerable part of my career, being an SLE allows me to continue to do this working in schools other than my own. The teaching school has been a considerable help to me supporting me in my application and providing CPD essential to the role.’
Linda is very active in her spare time enjoying swimming, running and recently qualifying for her pilots license, something she had always wanted to do.
Before entering teaching she worked as a production engineer in a variety of industries from manufacturing gas cookers to supplying valve actuators to the oil industry. Whilst her children were young she took the opportunity to take an Open University masters degree in maths, which with her Engineering background, seemed the logical subject to teach.
She said, ‘I think mathematical literacy is a key life skill for everyone, but it is also fun – at the heart of maths is problem solving and that is what I enjoy about the subject. The SLE role will help me as a Vice Principal as I will have the opportunity to visit other schools and take experience from their context and apply it to my own. Many of the skills I develop as an SLE will have a direct impact on my role at Corby Technical School developing staff here as we grow the school.’
